Feeding the Shetlands Hay in Winter, Shetland Pony Club, Surrey Feeding the Shetlands Hay in Winter, Shetland Pony Club, Surrey

The very cold winter means that we are feeding the Shetlands hay.  Our ponies live outside in a natural way, but they still need a little help when the east wind blows.  The fibre in hay is digested slowly and acts as an internal central heating system for the ponies.

Their thick double layer coats fluff up in the cold and keep them cosy and warm. Their long manes and tails keep the frost and snow away from their skin.
