Marmite came to Shetland Pony Club in 2025.

A middle-aged pony – Marmite is 20 years old.  He had a lovely home in Kent, with his best friend Iceman, where they were much loved by their caring owner. Many children and grandchildren enjoyed riding and loving Marmite before coming to The Ranch.

As a completely black pony, Marmite is quite an unusual colour for a horse. Most dark ponies are actually brown or bay (brown with a black mane and tail). Teddy Bear is our other black pony – he is much larger and called a Standard Shetland Pony.

Age: 20 years old
Size: Miniature 33 inches
Colour: Black

Size: ponies and horses are measured in hands (the width of a grown-up’s hand is about 4 inches). He is one of our smaller Shetland ponies at 33 inches high or 8 hands 1 inch tall. Small Shetland ponies are known as Mini Shetlands.

Name: he is called Marmite because of his lovely dark colour and glossy coat.

Experience: he is well-trained and loves children, being brushed and ridden.

Riding: our lovely pony is ideal for children from ages 3-6 to ride as Pony Share Members, on Starter Rides,  Own a Pony Experiences and Pony Parties

Personality

Marmite is brilliant with young children and is very friendly. He is best friends with Iceman, who he lived with for 12 years in Kent, before joining the herd at Shetland Pony Club.

Breeding: He is a registered (pedigree) Shetland pony with a great big official name, Braywood Ferdy, so Marmite is easier to say!
