We’re learning a new normal with our riding at Shetland Pony Club. It is so exciting to be riding again as some of the restrictions in the UK ease. Things are not quite the same, but the children are enjoying learning the new rules and having fun with the ponies.
What is the new normal at Shetland Pony Club
There’s lots of signs and reminders for us all to keep apart and parents are putting the riding hats on their children when they arrive. The children are enjoying brushing their ponies, with individual grooming kits, and can they even paint their hooves.
So, what can parents do?
The parents viewing gallery is proving very popular, with lovely socially distanced benches, to enjoy watching the children ride and just being in the countryside. The children love riding past and showing off their riding skills too.
Is that all?
We all need to remember to put our equipment in the right place for cleaning and there’s lots of handwashing and hand gel too. Everyone is doing really well with the new rules for pony riding, so we can enjoy pony fun again at Shetland Pony Club.

New minimum riding age of 4
Shetland Pony Club is proud to be one of the first riding schools in the country to be awarded the Association of British Riding Schools Certification for COVID-19 Safe Working Practices. Having risk-assessed our riding in the light of the government guidelines, we have changed the age for riding to a minimum of 4 years old, until further notice. For children aged 2.5 – 4, we hope to be able to resume riding soon. Keep an eye on our weekly email, social media and the website here for more information.
Take care from
