Review of 2021 at Shetland Pony Club

Join Rosemary as she looks back and reviews the best of 2021 at Shetland Pony Club.

Review of 2021 at Shetland Pony Club.

After a long period of lockdown from November 2020 we were delighted to start riding again at The Ranch in March 2021. Despite the challenges of this year we managed to have lots of pony fun and riding. We were thrilled to be able to go ahead with our legendary Easter Egg Hunts, Summer Camps and Halloween Pumpkin Rides. Watch the video to find out more!

As you watch this year’s review video can you answer these questions:

What happened on the opening day at The Ranch?

We had a cold surprise on our opening day at The Ranch but that didn’t stop us or the ponies from riding. The ponies still had their warm, fluffy coats and were ready for any weather.

How many new ponies arrived this year?

We’ve had some new pony additions to Shetland pony Club this year, including Trooper who travelled all the way from the Shetland Isles.

What did the farmer plant to cheer everyone up?

As well as our amazing wildflower meadows, we were lucky to also have some new, bright and cheery flowers at The Ranch this year. Can you guess what flowers they were?

Watch the video, Review of 2021 at Shetland Pony Club,  to find out more.

Thank you so much for all your support in 2021.

Pony Pumpkins for Horsey Halloween at Shetland Pony Club

It’s Horsey Halloween and we see what’s scaring the Shetland ponies this week?  Is it the Pony Pumpkins, or something else?

Pony Pumpkins for Horsey Halloween at Shetland Pony Club

There are some amazing Pony Pumpkins that have been carved by our team for Horsey Halloween at Shetland Pony Club. I wonder if that’s what is scaring the ponies as the sun goes down at The Ranch?

Night-time animals come out to play

As the moon comes up, the ponies start to play and lots of night-time animals come out too. There are bats and a badger that join the ponies under the full moon.

Something scary for Shetland ponies

Something has frightened the ponies and they are running away.  What could be so scary?

How to transport a pony from the Shetland Isles – part 4

This week we find out how to transport a pony from the Shetland Isles, now that we have found the ideal pony for us, in the last 3 videos.

How to transport a pony from the Shetland Isles to Surrey

First, we need to arrange lots of paperwork to make sure that our new pony can travel safely to us. Once everything is arranged, we need to bring him to Surrey before the winter weather and rough seas set in. On a calm day, our new pony, Trooper, says goodbye to his friends and sets off on his ferry journey to Aberdeen. He is very calm as he has been on a ferry before, and he knows that he gets tasty hay bricks to eat on the journey.

Weekend break for a Shetland pony

Trooper takes the overnight ferry from Shetland, when the weather is calm and has a weekend break in Aberdeen. It’s good to split the journey into sections so that he has time to graze and rest on his trip.

After the weekend, Trooper comes to the south of England, and has another night’s rest before coming to Shetland Pony Club. Let’s see him arrive at Shetland Pony Club after his long trip.

Watch the video to find out how to transport a pony from the Shetland Isles, to Surrey.

Looking for a new Shetland pony on the Shetland Isles – Part 3

In our search so far, we have found some Shetland ponies that are too big and too small, seen some cheeky puffins and some Viking longships, but not many Shetland ponies yet.

Looking for a new pony on the Shetland Isles

We know that one of our Shetland ponies, Balmoral, was born on the Shetland Island of Yell. His owner has now moved so we go in search of her to see if she has any more ponies that might be perfect for Shetland Pony Club.

Peat bogs but no ponies

The landscape is very beautiful, but windy too. We see some peat that has been cut and is drying. It’s a traditional fuel for homes that is still used occasionally, and Shetland ponies were used to carry it off the moors. I’m heading for a place called “the Cake Fridge”. It sounds an unlikely place to find a Shetland pony…
