Learn all about The Shetland pony: Part 1 Origins

Join Rosemary in this week’s mini series to learn all about the Shetland pony: Part 1 Origins

Where do Shetlands come from and why are they so small?

They originate on the Shetland Islands, 120 miles from the north of Scotland. But how did they get there?

There are a couple of theories:

  1. They walked across a land bridge when the sea levels were lower
  2. Archaeologists now believe that they came across in longboats with the Vikings!

How do Shetlands survive in tough climates?

Shetlands are small, fat, and fluffy, which means they are well adapted to the harsh weather conditions of the Shetland Islands.

Priority notice for Shetland Pony Club Summer Camp

Shetland Pony Club Summer Camp is coming up. With lots of summer pony fun for children aged 5 years and over, we want to make sure you don’t miss out, with this subscriber’s priority booking notice.

What happens on Shetland Pony Club Summer Camp?

Children arrive at 9.30am and spend the whole day with their own Shetland pony until 4pm.  There are pony themed days, such as vet’s day, where children learn all about pony care, as well as dressing up and riding their ponies through the beautiful countryside.  We go to the woods, through the cornfields and, if it’s hot enough, we can even take the ponies paddling in the river. At Shetland Pony Club Summer Camp you learn to ride your pony, look after him and enjoy being with him, all day long. It’s an amazing holiday club day.
