Today is the day when our new Shetland pony, Bilbo, is arriving at the Ranch – how exciting!
Bilbo has just had a short journey to get to us. He has come from a lovely family where he has been ridden and cared for by some children who have sadly outgrown him.
New friends for Shetland pony Bilbo
Bilbo goes out into our meadows to meet his new friends. Will they want to say hello and play?
Elgin Sunset is not interested, but what about Toffee and Snowdrop? Do they play with Bilbo and make friends with him?

Join Rosemary in this week’s video, our Shetland ponies in Storm Eunice.
Last week the UK was hit by Storm Eunice, with winds up to 90mph. Thankfully all the Shetlands are safe and well, albeit a little windswept. The only damage we had was our large Ash tree that fell in the winds, this was sad as the Shetlands loved standing under it all year round.
Watch the latest video to find out what precautions Rosemary took to ensure the ponies’ safety by:
Moving the ponies into the Rewilding field where there are no trees to fall over
The Rewilding field has lots of bramble bushes that the ponies can shelter behind
Keeping the Shetlands outdoors not in a stable as the high winds would have made this dangerous.

Shetland ponies originate from the Shetland Isles, where there are no trees for shelter and the weather is wet, cold, and windy. Being small means that Shetland ponies are able to adapt and survive the harsh conditions.
Are our Shetlands fully grown?
Yes, our ponies are fully grown, many people think they are babies or foals however most of our Shetlands are teenagers now. We don’t have any young foals or young stock at Shetland Pony Club.
How to measure a Shetland pony?
Shetland ponies are measured from the ground to the top of their wither. You measure them in inches. This is different from other horses or ponies who are normally measured in hands. Our smallest pony, Snowdrop, is only 32 inches high! Balmoral and Mufasa are our biggest ponies at 42 inches high.

Take a moment to enjoy a Snowy Merry Christmas with the adorable ponies at Shetland Pony Club this festive season.
Which pony is the snowiest?
The Shetland ponies have a double layer of hair in their coats to keep them warm in the snow. They also keep warm by eating hay. Which pony is the snowiest? Do you think it is Fudge, Sundance, Toffee or Honeybee?
We would like to thank all our members, customers, suppliers and friends from all over the world for all your support this year.
Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas from Rosemary, Liz, Camilla, the Team and all the ponies at Shetland Pony Club
