Shhhh… the Shetland ponies are sleeping! The ponies have been very busy with Jubilee Pony Street parties and Half Term. Now it’s time for the ponies to have a well-earned rest. Watch the video to see all the Shetland Ponies sleeping.
Can you see Dinky having a snooze in the sun?
Ponies do lie down for short periods of time in the field when they feel safe. The ponies like to rest in little groups together, generally with a look out pony to see if there is any danger.
Can you see Gordon looking out for his friends?
In the wild they would need to be careful that a tiger wouldn’t come and sneak up on them. So it’s a good idea to sleep in a group with a look out.

Last weekend we had our very own special Jubilee Shetland Pony Street Party!
The ponies are all dressed up in their Union Jack flags, Jubilee sashes and their little tiaras and crowns.
Can you see what special outfit Tintin is wearing for the celebrations?
In London the Trooping of the Colour Parade is under way, and in honour of The Queen we have our very own Pony Parade too. The skies were clear at The Ranch and we saw the aeroplanes that took part in the fly pass from London.
We had fun photos under the Jubilee arch and in the special photo frame. Can you see Prince William posing?
After the parade and photos, it’s time for party tea. We had lots of yummy cakes, sandwiches, and muffins. Everyone joined in and had so much fun. We think The Queen would’ve approved of our Pony Street Party!

In this special episode for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we are going to look at a trip I took to the Queen’s private estate at Balmoral to see her Highland Ponies!
Highland Ponies are native to the Highlands of Scotland, they like Shetlands but bigger. The Queen breeds them on her estate in Balmoral. I spent a day with the Stud Manager and we had lots of jobs to do.
First we had to give the ponies some hay
Then we had to fed the stallions, male ponies, a special feed
We drove around the Balmoral Estate; can you see what other animals I saw?
We then visited the mothers with their foals, they were adorable! Highland ponies are quite rare, so the Stud plays an important role in protecting them. The mothers’ give the foals milk to drink and then they learn to eat hay and grass. As the foals grow up, they are used for:
Riding
Transporting things around the hilly estate
It was such a special treat to see all the wonderful Highland Ponies. Thank you to HM The Queen for taking excellent care of her native breeds.

Children arrive at 9.30am and spend the whole day with their own Shetland pony until 4pm. There are pony themed days, such as vet’s day, where children learn all about pony care, as well as dressing up and riding their ponies through the beautiful countryside. We go to the woods, through the cornfields and, if it’s hot enough, we can even take the ponies paddling in the river. At Shetland Pony Club Summer Camp you learn to ride your pony, look after him and enjoy being with him, all day long. It’s an amazing holiday club day.
